Studies confirm that the best managers and leaders have rich personal lives. Is your company realizing the power of time away from the job?

Resumes: Turning Employment Gaps into Sabbaticals

We just Tweeted in response to PongoResume’s suggestion to use a “functional resume” (organized by skills, not dates) to help “hide” employment gaps. Our response: Why not turn an employment gap into a sabbatical and make your resume stand out?

Millions of Americans – and millions more globally – are now faced with an employment gap, having been laid off by their companies. Some are diving straight into looking for their next job; indeed, many don’t have a choice but to do just that.

But others, recognizing it’s really a lousy time to job hunt, are turning their gap into a career pause that, with a plan that includes specific goals and objectives, yields new skills and development and makes them a more desirable job candidate – a sabbatical.
